Earth Now

Earth Now is a NASA application for mobile devices, developed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The app allows you to track the current locations of several NASA satellites: OCO-2, Aqua, GRACE, Terris, and AQUARIUS. All of these satellites are polar orbiting and are currently collecting data related to climate change. This data includes surface air temperature, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone, and water vapor as well as gravity and sea level variations.

The app helps uses visualize data from these satellites on a 2d model of the Earth. This model can be rotated with your fingers and shows the data in different “sets”, similar to Science on a Sphere. These “sets” each display a different array of data—such as temperature or carbon dioxide levels—using colors to represent different measurements. The legends can be used to identify what the colors mean.
